INAUGuRAL SESSION OF G20 EVENT

G20 Cultural-Cum-Academic Activities at the University of Delhi

Inaugural Session: 23rd August 2023

The University of Delhi proudly hosted the inaugural session of the G20 Cultural-Cum-Academic activities on 23rd August 2023 in the prestigious Academic Council Hall of the Vice Regal Lodge. The event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, and attended by prominent university officials including Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. K. Ratnabali, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, Chairperson of Culture Council Sh. Anoop Lather, and Dean of Culture Council Prof. Ravinder Kumar, along with principals, heads of departments, and other dignitaries.

The session commenced with a twenty-minute video showcasing the cultural highlights of various G20 countries. This was followed by a welcome address from Sh. Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Culture Council, who then invited the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor to share his insights.

In his speech, Prof. Yogesh Singh emphasized that the G20 Presidency is a global opportunity for India to exemplify the motto of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – One Earth, One Family, One Future. He highlighted the responsibility of each individual to contribute to this significant tenure of India’s leadership. Prof. Singh announced that colleges and departments would actively participate in celebrating India’s G20 Presidency, under the guidance of the Culture Council led by Sh. Anoop Lather and Prof. Ravinder Kumar.

Eighteen nodal centres from various colleges and departments were then invited to the stage, where each was assigned a G20 country and handed its flag by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. These centres were tasked with celebrating the cultural diversity of their assigned country along with India’s rich heritage.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of Culture Council, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and a high-tea session.

Cultural Festivities and Valedictory Meet

The nodal centres embarked on a vibrant cultural journey, organizing events that ranged from traditional indigenous dance forms to K-pop dance competitions, and from Bhangra-Turkish dance fusions to Korean cuisine celebrations. The G20 cultural-cum-academic programs became a true medley of cultural fusion.

On 27th December 2023, the Culture Council organized the Valedictory Meet of the G20 cultural-cum-academic activities. Presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, the event honored each nodal centre with a memento. The Nodal Officer and Faculty Member of each centre received Certificates of Appreciation.

In his vote of thanks, Prof. Ravinder Kumar expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor for his visionary initiative and thanked the Culture Council team for their efforts in ensuring the success of the celebrations. He also acknowledged the principals, nodal officers, and faculty members for their active participation.

Celebrating India’s G20 Presidency

Launched in August 2023, the Culture Council’s initiative to celebrate India’s G20 Presidency engaged eighteen nodal centres across the university. Each centre showcased the cultural diversity of an assigned G20 country along with India’s rich cultural tapestry. The result was a spectacular four-month celebration marked by diverse cultural events and academic activities, highlighting the spirit of global unity and cultural exchange.

The University of Delhi’s G20 Cultural-Cum-Academic initiative exemplified the essence of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” fostering a deep sense of global citizenship and cultural appreciation among its community.

GLIMPSES OF G20 EVENT

Indo-Mexico Relations: Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar College

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar College, affiliated with Delhi University, in collaboration with Vivekananda College, organized a cultural and academic program on the common cultural and historical heritage of India-Mexico, as part of the G20 initiatives.

The program commenced with an inaugural session attended by distinguished guests:

Dr. RN Dubey, in his opening remarks, emphasized global unity and highlighted the historical relations between Mexico and India, citing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as a foundation for global harmony. He also underscored Prime Minister Modi's five pledges as crucial for India's strength.

Prof. Hina Nandrajog spoke on how Indian culture has been preserved through literature and cinema, noting the role of storytellers in this preservation.

Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh discussed sustainable development, comparing India and Mexico on various parameters like population, climate change, and energy. He stressed the importance of education in achieving sustainable development goals.

Prof. Ravindra Kumar encouraged student participation and highlighted the cultural exchange evident in the event, emphasizing India's youthful demographic and the significant role of women in preserving cultural heritage.

Mr. Anoop Lather, reflecting on the colonial histories of India and Mexico, emphasized their shared cultural resilience and India's economic progress towards becoming a global leader. He encouraged Indian youth to harness their potential for national advancement.

Dr. Inder Mohan Kapahi highlighted similarities between India and Mexico, emphasizing education's role in sustainable development and India's emerging leadership in the Global South.

Cultural Activities

The program concluded with cultural activities where students from both colleges showcased the shared cultural heritage of India and Mexico through presentations coordinated by Prof. Vishnu Mohan Dash and conducted by Prof. Poonam Mittal and Prof. Jaya Verma.

Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal, addressing the students, emphasized the holistic development achieved through academic, cultural, and sports activities within institutions.

The event at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar College was a significant step in fostering Indo-Mexican cultural and academic ties, celebrating their shared heritage and promoting global understanding through education and cultural exchange.

Satyawati College (E), in association with the University of Delhi’s Culture Council, organized the G20 Summit and Bharat-Indonesia: Bridging Cultures and Building Economies on October 5-6, 2023.

Day 1: Academic Symposium and Panel Discussion

  • Inaugural Session : Chief Guests Professor Shri Prakash Singh (Director, South Campus, University of Delhi) and Shri Jagdish Mittal (Educationist, Poet) highlighted Bharat’s G20 presidency and its cultural significance.

Second Part of the Academic Symposium

Sri Aurobindo College, in collaboration with the Culture Council of the University of Delhi, hosted "Strengthening Ties: India-China Relationship" on September 29, 2023. The event, themed 'Vasudaiva Kutumbkam,' aimed to enhance India-China relations through an Indo-Chinese food festival and cultural performances.

  • Opening: The event began with a lamplighting ceremony and a blend of Saraswati Vandana and Buddhist chants.
  • Welcome Address: Prof. Vipin Kumar Aggarwal, Principal, emphasized the potential power of collaboration between India and China.
  • Chief Guest: Mr. Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Steering Committee, described the India-China relationship as an 'integrated circuit' and praised the organizing committee, led by Dr. Rashmi Mathur and Dr. Asha Kiran Gupta.
  • Guest of Honour: Prof. Niranjan Kumar, Advisor to the Minister of State for Education, highlighted the importance of using art and culture to improve bilateral relations.

In the spirit of fostering Indo-French ties, the Cultural Council of the University of Delhi, with Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences as the nodal center, and in collaboration with Shivaji College and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women, organized “Celebrating Indo-French Relations in the Wake of India's G20 Presidency” on September 26, 2023.

Two-day Symposium: India-South Africa @G20: Convergences and Concerns

Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening), University of Delhi, organized a two-day symposium titled "India-South Africa @G20: Convergences and Concerns" under the aegis of the Culture Council, University of Delhi, on September 14-15, 2023. The symposium was held at the Salman Ghani Hashmi Auditorium, Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening).

14th September 2023: Inaugural Session

The inaugural session commenced at 11.00 a.m., anchored by Prof. Madhumita Chakraborty from the Department of English. Prof. Masroor Ahmad Beg, the Principal of Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening), delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of such symposiums. Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Government of India, delivered her address through a video message, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" and the inclusion of the African Union in the G20.

This session was anchored by Dr. Hari Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of English, and presided over by Prof. Masroor Ahmad Beg. The panel discussion was chaired by Shri Anil Trigunayat, Former Ambassador, and included Dr. Ruchita Beri, Consultant, MP-IDSA, Delhi, and Dr. Nivedita Ray, Director (Research) ICWA, Delhi.

Key discussions:

  • Shri Anil Trigunayat: Highlighted the current political scenario in Africa, India's assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the significance of Africa's inclusion in G20.
  • Dr. Ruchita Beri: Spoke on the historical and strategic partnership between India and South Africa, including the surge in trade ties and maritime security cooperation.
  • Dr. Nivedita Ray: Emphasized the convergence of India and South Africa as voices of the global south and the significance of their roles in the G20 and BRICS.

The session concluded with a Q&A segment and the national anthems of South Africa and India. An hour-long cultural program followed, showcasing Indian and Western music and folk dances.

15th September 2023: Day 2

Parallel Session 1: South Africa: Literature and Art

The first session of the second day was anchored by Prof. Pakizah Samad, Department of Commerce. Key speakers included:

  • Prof. H C Narang: Discussed the history of racial discrimination in South Africa and the role of literature in achieving peace.
  • Dr. Jamal M Moosa: Highlighted the cultural legacy of Tamil people in South Africa and their role in the freedom struggle.
  • Dr. Sandipani Dash: Spoke on the cultural narratives linking India and South Africa within the G20 framework.

The session featured a Q&A segment and concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Shubhra Pant Kothari.

Parallel Session 2: Technical Session: India-South Africa - Language and Culture

The Technical Session was chaired by Prof. Mohammed Kazim from the Department of Urdu, University of Delhi. Key discussions focused on the cultural and linguistic evolution of Africa in the context of Indo-South African culture. The session highlighted issues like racism, colonialism, and the importance of cultural and linguistic preservation.

In the wake of India's G20 presidentship in 2023, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi hosted an event, a discussion on Novel Initiatives in INDO-US Education Sector: Exploring the Indian Knowledge System. The event was on Monday, 28th August from 11 am onwards.

The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony and an address by Dr. Kalra, followed by a welcome speech from the Principal, Professor Hem Chand Jain. The discussion primarily focused on India's goals and objectives as the current president of the G20.

Speakers and Highlights:

  1. Professor Anoop Lather: The first speaker, the Chairperson of the Cultural Committee of the University of Delhi, emphasized India's rich educational history, mentioning ancient universities like Nalanda and Takshashila. He also highlighted the importance of human values, societal advancement, and technology.

  2. Dr. Rajvir Singh: The Chief Guest, Dr. Singh, delved into the significance of the greeting 'Namaste', criticized the caste system, and emphasized self-realization and mutual respect. He discussed the traditional 'guru-shishya' relationship and referenced Swami Vivekananda.

  3. Dr. Ravinder Kumar: He spoke about the benefits of mutual learning between countries, likening it to the biological process of information transfer in cells. Dr. Kumar also discussed India's four educational models proposed at the G20 summit.

  4. Guru Kanika Ghosh: A renowned classical dance teacher, she sang for the audience and spoke about the heritage and values of the University of Delhi.

Cultural Performances:

After the speeches, there were a variety of cultural performances blending Indian and Western art forms. Classical Indian dances like Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, and Sattriya were performed by Krishnali and her team, followed by Western dance styles like Hip-hop and Waacking by Navin and his team. The band Thursday the 13th concluded the performances with a mix of Hindi and Western folk songs and fusion music.

The event was hosted by Priyanshu and Diksha, who provided an overview of the G20 and its objectives. They highlighted the importance of the Indo-US collaboration in the education sector, emphasizing the G20 initiative's role in fostering bilateral educational exchanges.

Panel Discussion:

The panel discussion featured several distinguished panelists, facilitated by the Principal, Prof. Hem Chand Jain, and moderated by Prof. Himanshu Roy from Jawaharlal Nehru University. The panelists included:

  • Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda: She discussed the status of women in pre-colonial India, touching on historical practices and the importance of women's participation in the national movement.
  • Mr. Pratyush: He highlighted the lack of Indian universities in the top 100 globally, the importance of the mother tongue, and India's advanced educational practices in ancient times.
  • Ms. Vrinda Khanna: She spoke about historical evidence of female empowerment in India, referencing cultural and religious texts.
  • Prof. Preeti: She discussed the role of women in traditional education and the current shortcomings of the education system, emphasizing the need for women's involvement in restoring the quality of education.

The discussion concluded with a Q&A session, and a vote of thanks was extended to the Principal, Charu ma’am, and the students for their participation. The event was deemed an enriching experience, receiving positive responses from all attendees.

Aikyam 2: A Two-Day Cultural and Academic Event at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi

On November 16, 2023, Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of English and under the aegis of the Office of Culture Council, organized a two-day cultural and academic event titled 'Aikyam 2'. The event took place in the Ashoka Lawn and Academic Auditorium of the college campus.

Day 1 Highlights:

The first day commenced at 7:00 p.m. with a grand opening that included a formal invocation and the lighting of the lamp. Prof. Dinesh Khattar, Principal of Kirori Mal College, felicitated the chief guest, Prof. Inder Mohan Kapahy, Executive Council Member of the University of Delhi, along with the guests of honor:

  • Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of the Culture Council, University of Delhi
  • Shri Chandra Wadhwa, Chairman of the Governing Body, Kirori Mal College

Following the felicitations, the guests delivered thought-provoking speeches on the significance and scope of the G20. The evening continued with an impressive performance by Musoc, the college's music society, and Sensations, the dance society. This unique evening highlighted the vibrant cultures of India and Australia, making it an informative, exciting, and unforgettable experience.

Day 2 Highlights:

The second day featured Dr. Prerna Malhotra, Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Delhi, as the chief guest. The program began with a formal welcome by Prof. Dinesh Khattar. Dr. Malhotra then delivered an address on "G20 and the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which was both unforgettable and mesmerizing.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Gadre, Convenor of Aikyam and G20 University Connect at Kirori Mal College, officially marking the end of the program.

The Indo-Canadian Utsav at Zakir Husain Delhi College: A Celebration of G-20 Summit and Cultural Exchange

On November 30, 2023, Zakir Husain Delhi College hosted the Indo-Canadian Utsav, an integral part of the G-20 Summit celebrations. Organized through leadership programs by the Culture Council, University of Delhi, the event aimed to enhance the understanding of cultural heritage, trade opportunities, and mutual collaboration between India, one of the world's oldest civilizations, and Canada, one of its youngest nations. The event was a resounding success.

Event Highlights:

Inauguration and Cultural Prelude:

The event began with an address by Dr. Nidhi Dhawan, who emphasized the celebration of India's G20 presidency with grandeur and positivity. This was followed by a soulful rendition of the Kulgeet by students of Zakir Husain Delhi College, setting a rich cultural tone. The traditional lamp lighting ceremony was conducted by the Hon'ble Chief Guest, Iqbal Singh Lalpura Ji, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, along with esteemed guests and college officials.

The Saraswati Vandana performance invoked divine blessings, setting the stage for the knowledge-sharing sessions. Nodal Officer Prof. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja then shared insights on people-to-people connections between India and Canada, creating an engaging atmosphere.

Keynote Speeches and Academic Insights:

Principal Prof. Narendra Singh welcomed dignitaries, staff, and students, urging them to embrace the values reflected in the G20's motto, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (The world is one family). Chief Guest Iqbal Singh Lalpura Ji highlighted the vision of inclusivity and collaboration shared by the G20 and the nation's leadership.

The keynote address by Prof. Rekha Saxena on "Celebrating Unity in Diversity: A Comparative Study of Indian and Canadian Parliamentary Federal Systems" was a highlight of the event, shedding light on constitutional provisions and similarities between the two nations.

Prof. Ravinder Kumar and Prof. Anoop Lather Ji commended the success of G20 cultural programs and the efforts to integrate the university community.

Cultural Performances:

The cultural segment featured a captivating Bhangra performance, a Geetmala showcasing festive songs, and an artistically delightful fusion dance, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and the spirit of Indo-Canadian collaboration.

Conclusion:

The Indo-Canadian Utsav concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Ritu Mathur, the faculty nominee. The event ended with the national anthems of both Canada and India, symbolizing the harmonious culmination of this cultural exchange.

Indo-Saudi Relations: Through the Ages

In celebration of the G-20 Summit in New Delhi, the Department of Arabic, in collaboration with the Culture Council of the University of Delhi, hosted a cultural and academic program titled "Indo-Saudi Relations: Through the Ages" on October 11th and 12th, 2023. Held at the Conference Centre of the University, the two-day seminar focused on the historical and contemporary ties between India and Saudi Arabia.

Inaugural Session Highlights:

Welcome Address and Opening Remarks:

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. S. Hasnain Akhtar, Head of the Department of Arabic at the University of Delhi. Prof. Akhtar introduced the theme of the seminar, highlighting the centuries-old commercial ties and intellectual exchanges between the Indian subcontinent and the Arab world. He emphasized the significance of Saudi Arabia in the G-20 and its potential role in promoting global peace.

Chief Guest Address:

Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj, Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Valmiki Sanskrit University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He spoke about the deep intellectual connections between India and the Arab world, citing contributions to fields such as mathematics and sciences. Prof. Bhardwaj highlighted the roles of scholars like al-Khwarizmi and al-Biruni in bridging knowledge between the two regions and praised the early translations of Indian texts like "Panchatantra" into Arabic.

Keynote Address:

Amb. Mahesh Sachdev, Retd. IFS and expert on Middle Eastern affairs, delivered the keynote address. He elaborated on the geopolitical, socio-economic, and cultural dimensions of Indo-Saudi relations. Amb. Sachdev discussed the historical diplomatic engagements, starting from the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1947, through high-level visits such as King Saud's visit to India in 1955 and Prime Minister Nehru's visit to Saudi Arabia in 1956, to the recent strategic partnerships and agreements like the 'Delhi Declaration' and 'Riyadh Declaration'.

Guest Addresses:

Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of the Culture Council, University of Delhi, and Mr. Anoop Lather, Chairman of the Culture Council, also addressed the audience. Prof. Kumar examined the geopolitical conditions in the Middle East, while Mr. Lather emphasized the importance of language in fostering connections between India and the Arab world. Prof. Amitava Chakraborty, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, praised the seminar's organizers and highlighted the educational value of such events.

Vote of Thanks and Cultural Program:

Special Remarks

Dr. Rajaram Panda joined as a special guest, and Mrs. Mallika Gangakhedkar discussed the historical roots of India-South Korea relations. The program concluded with Prof. Raja Ram appreciating the event as a manifestation of South Korea-Bharat cultural diplomacy.

Cultural Extravaganza and Acknowledgments

The cultural extravaganza featured performances highlighting the cultural affinity between the two nations. The event concluded with acknowledgments to the organizing team, including Ms. Udita Agrawal, Nodal Officer, and her associate Ms. Karishma Saraswat, as well as the anchors Ms. Priyanka Chatterjee and Prof. Meena Sharma. Special thanks were given to the convenors of various committees, ensuring the event's success.

The "South Korea-Bharat Friendship" event at Indraprastha College for Women was a testament to the enduring and evolving relationship between the two nations, setting a benchmark for cultural and academic exchanges.

Department of Persian: Indo-Turkish Relations

As India chaired the G-20 from December 2022 to November 2023, the country took several initiatives to ensure the event's success, extending these efforts to universities to involve every corner of the nation. The visionary Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, encouraged departments and colleges to organize programs promoting G-20 goals. In this spirit, the Department of Persian organized a one-day cultural and academic event to highlight the historical and contemporary relations between India and Turkey, both G-20 members.

Inaugural Session

Prof. Chander Shekhar, Senior Professor and former Head of the Department of Persian, welcomed the attendees and highlighted India's historical significance, once holding 40% of the world’s GDP. He attributed India’s current economic resurgence to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting India's $4 trillion economy and improved lifestyles due to policy changes. Prof. Shekhar emphasized the importance of showcasing India’s rich civilization through such international platforms.

Keynote and Guest Speeches

Prof. A.K. Mohapatra, from the Centre for West Asian Studies, JNU, delivered the keynote address. He discussed the long historical ties between India and Turkey, their cultural similarities, and Turkey's transformation into a liberal democracy under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Prof. Mohapatra highlighted the strategic importance of robust Indo-Turkish relations, particularly in areas like software, space research, and construction.

Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of the Cultural Council and Guest of Honor, emphasized the strong historical and cultural connections between India and Turkey. He recalled India’s humanitarian assistance during the 2020 Turkish earthquake through "Operation Dost" and stressed the role of culture, language, and literature in bridging nations.

Shri Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Steering Committee, Culture Council & PRO, UoD, underscored the importance of university-level programs in generating innovative ideas for the global forum. He noted that such interactions prepare students to contribute meaningfully to international relations.

Cultural Performances

The cultural session showcased performances that highlighted the cultural affinities between India and Turkey. This included Indian Bhangra and classical music, as well as Turkish folk dances like the Dabke and Maulvi flute performances by Indian artists, reflecting the rich cultural exchange between the two nations.

Academic Session

The academic session featured four papers covering various dimensions of Indo-Turkish relations:

  1. Prof. Akhlaq Ahan presented on the historical, ethnic, and linguistic ties between India and Turkey, highlighting the Turkish origins of renowned Persian poets like Ghalib, Mirza Bedil, and Khusrau.
  2. Dr. Mohsin Ali from JMI discussed the Turkish influence on Indian languages, focusing on commonly used vocabulary.
  3. Dr. Ali Akbar Shah explored the Sufi traditions shared by both countries, particularly the Baktashiye order popular in Macedonia and surrounding areas.
  4. Prof. Aleem Ashraf Khan, Head of the Department of Persian, presented his paper on the historical and contemporary relations between India and Turkey, from Qutubuddin Aibak to present-day interactions.

Closing Remarks

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Mehtab Jahan, acknowledging the contributions of all participants and highlighting the importance of such academic and cultural exchanges in strengthening Indo-Turkish relations. The session was moderated by Dr. Zayaur Rahman, and introductory remarks were given by Dr. Ali Akbar Shah, emphasizing the role of universities in fostering understanding and innovative ideas among students regarding global relations.

The Department of Persian's initiative was a testament to the deep-rooted and evolving relations between India and Turkey, providing a platform for academic discourse and cultural exchange that benefits both nations.

Indo-Argentina Relations: Janki Devi Memorial College

Janki Devi Memorial College successfully hosted an academic and cultural program on 20th November 2023, marking the culmination of its G20 activities. As a G20 Nodal College, Janki Devi Memorial College partnered with Argentina, organizing several events to foster academic and cultural collaboration between the two nations.

Inaugural and Academic Session

The event commenced at 9:30 AM with a ceremonial lamp lighting by the esteemed guests:

  • Shri Anoop Lather, Chairperson, Steering Committee and Culture Council
  • Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean, Culture Council

The ceremony began with the college prayer, followed by a welcome address highlighting the significance of 20th November as Argentina's National Sovereignty Day and the historical relations between India and Argentina, notably the connection between Rabindranath Tagore and Victoria Ocampo.

Panel Discussion

The panel discussion on ‘Indo-Argentina Relations: The Road Ahead’ was chaired by former Ambassador Rengaraj Viswanathan. Distinguished speakers included:

  • Dr. Ash Narain Roy
  • Counselor Cecilla Silberberg from the Argentinian embassy

The session was summarized by Prof. Payal Nagpal, with Dr. Debahuti Brahmachari (G20 faculty coordinator) delivering the vote of thanks.

Cultural Programme: Celebrating Culture – India and Argentina

The cultural program showcased a vibrant fusion of Indian and Argentine art forms, featuring music, dance, and costumes. The event was graced by the chief guest, Prof. Yogesh Singh, Honourable Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi. Guests of honor included Shri Anoop Lather and Prof. Ravinder Kumar, with Ms. Anuradha Krishna, Chairperson of the Governing Body, also in attendance. Prof. Singh praised the efforts of the nodal college and the hard work of the students.

Performances

  • Fusion Dance: Various student dance groups, including Nupur, Nritya, and Jhankaar, delivered captivating performances.
  • Musical Medley: Euphonie highlighted "ole ole," the popular anthem of Argentina, engaging the audience with its lively rhythm.
  • Folklore and Musical Retreat: Sarang presented a folklore musical performance, using props like dandiya to involve the audience.

The event also featured a designer showcase, "Bridging Design and Dress," which combined various themes from both countries. Prof. Poonam Bewtra, G20 nodal officer, gave a vote of thanks, acknowledging the crucial support received from various members and appreciating the success of the event.

Janki Devi Memorial College's event was a testament to the enduring and evolving relationship between India and Argentina, celebrating the rich cultural and academic exchanges between the two nations.

Valedictory Session of G20 Cultural-Cum-Academic Activities at the University of Delhi

Valedictory Session: 27th December 2023

The University of Delhi hosted the Valedictory Session of the G20 Cultural-Cum-Academic activities on 27th December 2023 at the esteemed Vice Regal Lodge. The event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, and saw the attendance of several key university officials, including Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Director of South Campus Prof. Shri Prakash Singh, Dean of Academics Prof. K. Ratnabali, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, Proctor Prof. Rajni Abbi, Chairperson of Culture Council Sh. Anoop Lather, and Dean of Culture Council Prof. Ravinder Kumar, along with principals, heads of departments, and other dignitaries.

In his address, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, highlighted the exceptional ability of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to transform official programs into events embraced by the masses, citing the G20 as a prime example. He remarked that G20 was no longer merely a bureaucratic term used in high-level meetings. Embracing this spirit, the University of Delhi celebrated India’s presidency of G20 from 28th August to 29th November through various cultural-cum-academic activities. Prof. Singh congratulated the Culture Council, under the guidance of Sh. Anoop Lather and Prof. Ravinder Kumar, for the successful execution of this initiative.

Following the Vice Chancellor’s speech, the Bulletin of Information (BoI) of the Culture Council was released, marking a historic moment as it was the first-ever release of the BoI of the Culture Council. An 18-minute movie was then screened, showcasing a compilation of the G20 events and activities conducted by the various nodal centres of the university.

As a token of appreciation, each nodal centre received a memento. The Nodal Officer and Faculty Member of each centre were also awarded Certificates of Appreciation. Additionally, Nodal Officers from colleges that participated in the inter-university competition organized by the Culture Council were presented with Certificates of Appreciation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Dean of Culture Council, Prof. Ravinder Kumar, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

The University of Delhi’s celebration of India’s G20 Presidency provided a valuable platform for students to learn about and appreciate the cultural diversity of G20 nations. This initiative truly embodied the spirit of global unity and cultural exchange, making it a significant milestone in the university’s cultural and academic calendar.
