Musical Evening Tribute to Legendary Indian Singers
On 24th March 2024, the Culture Council organized a memorable Musical Evening at the Vice-Regal Lodge to pay tribute to three iconic female singers of Indian cinema: Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and Geeta Dutt. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries and university officials, making it a grand celebration of Indian musical heritage.
Event Highlights
Chief Guest: Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh presided over the event, underscoring its significance in honoring cultural icons.
Tribute by Prof. Charu Kapoor: On behalf of the Culture Council, Prof. Charu Kapoor eloquently paid tribute to the legendary singers. She narrated their life journeys and highlighted their immense contributions to Indian cinema through their distinct singing styles.

Musical Tribute
Geeta Dutt: Prof. Charu Kapoor began the tribute by honoring Geeta Dutt, showcasing her soulful renditions and melodious voice. Songs from Geeta Dutt’s repertoire were performed, resonating with the audience.
Lata Mangeshkar: The tribute then moved to Lata Mangeshkar, where Prof. Kapoor highlighted the unparalleled influence and versatility of the Nightingale of India. Iconic melodies that defined an era were sung, capturing the essence of Lata Mangeshkar’s musical legacy.
Asha Bhosle: The evening concluded with homage to Asha Bhosle, known for her unique voice and experimental singing style. Prof. Charu Kapoor presented Asha Bhosle’s popular songs, demonstrating her dynamic range and impact on Indian music.
Medley Performance: As a finale, Prof. Kapoor performed a medley featuring songs from all three singers, blending their distinct styles into a harmonious tribute that left the audience mesmerized.
Closing Ceremony
National Anthem: The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, symbolizing unity and patriotism.
High-Tea: Attendees enjoyed a convivial high-tea, fostering camaraderie and reflection on the evening’s musical journey.
