Inaugural and Valedictory Sessions of G20 Cultural-cum-Academic Activities

The G20 Cultural-cum-Academic activities at the University of Delhi were launched with great enthusiasm and grandeur on 23rd August 2023, in the Academic Council Hall of the Vice Regal Lodge. This significant event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh.

Inaugural Session Highlights

  • Dignitaries Present:

    • Dean of Colleges, Prof. Balaram Pani
    • Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. K Ratnabali
    • Registrar, Dr. Vikas Gupta
    • Chairperson of Culture Council, Sh. Anoop Lather
    • Dean of Culture Council, Prof. Ravinder Kumar
    • Principals and Heads of Departments from various colleges of the university
  • Opening Ceremony:

    • The event began with a 20-minute video showcasing cultural highlights from various G20 countries.
    • Sh. Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Culture Council, delivered the Welcome Address.
  • Vice Chancellor’s Address:

    • Prof. Yogesh Singh emphasized the importance of India’s G20 presidency, highlighting the motto “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth, One Family, One Future).
    • He encouraged active participation (Jan Bhagidari) and announced that colleges and departments would celebrate India’s G20 presidency.
    • The Culture Council, led by Sh. Anoop Lather and Prof. Ravinder Kumar, was tasked with overseeing the initiative.
  • Nodal Centres Assignment:

    • Eighteen nodal centres from various colleges and departments were each assigned a G20 country.
    • Each nodal centre received the flag of their respective G20 country from the Vice Chancellor.
    • These centres were responsible for celebrating the cultural diversity of both their assigned G20 country and India.
  • Conclusion:

    • The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of Culture Council.
    • The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by high-tea.

Cultural-Cum-Academic Programs

Throughout the initiative, the nodal centres organized a variety of cultural and academic events, showcasing a vibrant fusion of traditions and modernity:

  • Cultural Events:
    • Traditional indigenous dance forms
    • K-pop dance competitions
    • Fusion performances of Bhangra and Turkish dance forms
    • Celebrations of authentic Korean cuisine

Valedictory Session Highlights

  • Valedictory Meet:

    • Held on 27th December 2023, organized by the Culture Council.
    • Presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh.
  • Appreciation and Awards:

    • Each nodal centre was presented with a memento.
    • Nodal Officers and Faculty Members received Certificates of Appreciation.
  • Dean’s Vote of Thanks:

    • Prof. Ravinder Kumar expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his visionary idea of celebrating G20 at the university level.
    • He thanked the Culture Council team, principals of nodal centres, Nodal Officers, and Faculty Members for their active participation.

Summary of G20 Celebrations

In August 2023, the University of Delhi’s Culture Council initiated a celebration of India’s G20 presidency at the university level. Eighteen nodal centres were selected, each assigned a G20 country to showcase its cultural diversity along with India’s. Over four months, these centres conducted a wide array of programs, creating a medley of cultural fusion that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of both India and the G20 nations

Valedictory Session of G20 Cultural-cum-Academic Activities

The University of Delhi hosted the Valedictory Session of the G20 Cultural-cum-Academic activities on 27th December 2023 at the Vice Regal Lodge. The event was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, and attended by numerous dignitaries.

    • Dean of Culture Council, Prof. Ravinder Kumar
    • Principals and Heads of Departments from various colleges of the university
  • Vice Chancellor’s Address:

    • Prof. Yogesh Singh praised Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ability to transform official programs into public movements, with G20 being a prime example.
    • He highlighted that the G20 is no longer just a bureaucratic term but a concept embraced by the masses.
    • From 28th August to 29th November, the University of Delhi celebrated India’s G20 presidency by organizing cultural-cum-academic activities.
    • Prof. Singh congratulated the Culture Council, led by Sh. Anoop Lather and Prof. Ravinder Kumar, for their successful execution of the initiative.
  • Bulletin of Information Release:

    • The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor released the Bulletin of Information (BoI) of the Culture Council, marking a historic first for the council.
  • G20 Events Movie Screening:

    • An 18-minute movie showcasing the G20 events and activities conducted by the various nodal centres was screened.
  • Appreciation and Awards:

    • Each nodal centre received a memento as a token of appreciation.
    • Nodal Officers and Faculty Members of the centres were presented with Certificates of Appreciation.
    • Nodal Officers of colleges participating in the inter-university competition organized by the Culture Council also received Certificates of Appreciation.
  • Vote of Thanks:

    • Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of Culture Council, delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the efforts of everyone involved in making the G20 celebrations a success.
  • Conclusion:

    • The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
